Barlavento Islands
1. Santa Antão
The most westerly of the Cape Verde islands and the largest of the Barlavento islands, Santa Antão is said to be the most scenic of all the islands and the Santa Antão islanders maintain that the Cape Verdian rum from their island is the sweetest and best of them all.
2. São Vicente
Particularly known for water sports, especially windsurfing and there is also an 18 hole golf course on São Vicente. Cape Verde’s beloved barefoot dive, Cesária Évora hails from this island.
3. Santa Luzia
Once supporting an agricultural community, Santa Luzia is now home only to wild birds and lizards.
4. São Nicolau
This islands relies mostly on agriculture but has a growing tourism sector clustered near the beaches.
5. Sal
Once the economy of this island relied on the collection of salt and later on fishing. Now with its 350 days of sunshine and long golden beaches both tourism and property investment is booming.
6. Boa Vista
The most easterly of all the Cape Verde islands.
